News from Grenada December 2023 - Back in Grenada
Well only 3 days until Christmas and not quiet sure what will happen then. I hope to go for a swim something I don’t hope for in the UK. It has been good to return to hot weather, but there has also been a lot of rain which I will talk more about later.
I I pray you all have a wanderful Christmas and that God walks with you throughout 2024. For many, Christmas can be a sad time following the loss of close friends or family members and many will be alone or feel alone. As Christians we know that this life is not the end but just part of the journey. Sad however when we were doing things to help build Kingdom Community together with someone no longer here.
In the place of Jesus birth (Bethlehem) there is war and we pray for peace. Jesus brought Joy, Hope, Peace and Love and as we go into 2024 I wonder how we can do the same to those around us?
Could I stay?
My work visa runs out on 13th Dec and so when I arrived they only gave me leave to stay until 13th. It had been applied for in Sept and last year had not come until the April. On 12th I went to get an extension after checking. I paid my 75 dollars and got extension for one month. A phone call minutes later told me the work visa was ready, but no refund.
Schools
I came back to the last week of school which sort of means no school. I did try to visit students in the Secondary School who I had been working with last year, but the Principal said not many would be in.
I did get the chance to lead the first outdoor assembly at the Primary School. They had built whilst I was away some seating overlooking the pasture (field). It went ok and sparked an idea to do more outdoor events.
The Primary School later in the week had a Fair at which I appeared as a tiger. The rain was heavy and so all had to be in the building, but people seemed to enjoy. But I should know by now everything starts late.
At Mac Donald College an assembly was due, but didn’t take place. Sports practice was there for some of them.
On Thursday 21st the Lions club and Tourist association came to give gifts to Children from the school. The school has some work going on and so it was in the Church. A great opportunity to pray for Christmas and sing carols. It was due for 10am Wed, but then moved to 10am Tuesday, but floods and landslides stopped that and so took place about 4pm Thursday.
Sponsored walk across Grenada:
I Plan to walk for 5 days from 26th Dec. If you want to sponsor me do make contact. The plan this year is to walk across the island and to raise money for both schools’ shelters and benches.
Visitors
On 27th Jan 3 people from CF Churches will come out and help for a couple of weeks. I hope they will help with some other project like the Open Space, Reading project, and painting. Remember if you want to come out, I can host you and you get to see this beautiful country.
Athletes Team:
On my first Sunday back, we were joined by a few from the MDC Athletics team and they took part in readings. Good to get that link
Landslides:
There has been much rain since my return, but Monday night and up to about 2.30pm Tuesday we had constant heavy rain. I could not drive to the Church as landslides had blocked parts of the road. Tractors have been out clearing. That evening I was told a family connected to the Church had their house slide down the bank and into the river below. When I got there the government were looking for temporary accommodation to house them. They have now been at my house for 4 nights. There were 9 living there. I have 5 and they hope to get some place soon?
Thanks for prayers and conversations. Do let me know if you want a zoom or WhatsApp call.
