The Croaking of Frogs!
I am sure we have had much more rain than we had last year and I am pleased I have an umbrella (in fact my 3rd since I got here!). The other evening I went up to the slope and you cannot see the little frogs but they are very noisy in the dark. One jumped on my shoe as it reached the tarmac. Yesterday I tried to drive up the slope to do some visits but I could not get up, the wheels just spun. So no driving until it drys out a bit. [ITS OUT thanks to a skilful teacher.] I know this is a crab but I see a lot of these too.
I spent 6 nights in Jamaica as part of the Carabbean Council for World Mission Regional Assembly. It was so good to go to a live conference and see people that I had previously only seen on Zoom! The theme was ‘Building Life Flourishing Communities’. We talked a lot about churches impact on their local communities and how we need to make sure we don’t miss out on helping those within our churches who may also be in need. Jesus, of course, met people where they were and did not expect them to come across a scary threshhold of a Church. The food was great but slow and that gave us a lot of time to sit and chat over meals. One thing I miss living on my own is the opportunity to chat informally.
For “Back to Church Sunday” we had less people than we normally have which was a little disappointing, but we plod on! We have held 2 Sunday@4.30pm services and they have been fun and interactive, but number very small so far. The Presbyterian Church of Grenada has its biannual assembly on 30th October. I pray the day goes well. To me, it seems like the numbers of people involved are getting less, but that may be the same across many denomiations. I am due to preach at this event and so welcome your prayers.
October is Child Month here in Grenada and so I led an assembly on this theme for the Primary School. The Children are getting to know my actions songs and they did so well at singing ‘Shine’. I try to make my 5-minute presentation at the Secondary Assembly a bit lively and it sometimes works well. I have helped with a few lessons at the MacDonald College but could be used more. At the Primary School they are beginning to use me and this week I had 3 sessions with students who need some individual help. This week I also did one session at NEWLO (New Life Organisation) a skills training facility set up by Churches. I did a session on Parenting for the Childcare group.
A teacher brought her whole class to our fund-raising tea.
Thank you for your prayers the Youth Group I restarted on 28th Sept. We had 12 young people that week and 16 the two weeks since. We are doing a mix of games, prayer, bible passages, social issues like bullying, anger, first aid, even prayer, and we snack together. I hope we can do more with this energetic group, but with it being me on my own it can be a challenge.
I have started a prayer and praise at the Secondary School on Thursdays 7.30-7.50am.
Please pray:
- The Youth Group need to have more people to help
- Caribbean region of CWM
- Sunday@4.30pm 1st Sunday of the month service
- Family time (Messy Church) once a month has reduced in numbers
- We need more on our leadership team
- Belair Church - I now need to go just on 1st Sunday. They had just 6 people last time, 8 this last week.
- Getting quotes for our Building work is a struggle and it takes so long to get anything done. The Plumbing has been done!
- My walk now moved to 12th - 19th December
From the start of October we hope to do a Community Lunch. This is now to be once a month and the first on 22nd October at 12noon, a weekly Sat lunch was going to be a challenge, but let’s see where this leads us.
Our Outing to the Salt spring.
If anyone would like to come out you are welcome and I know I can find something for you to do. The Congregational Federation are planning a Trip in 2023 as well.
It will be great to hear your news, I am still up for Zoom or What App chats. I have enjoyed that over this past month.
