To those in need
02 October 2024
One of the winners of the Congregational Insurance Serving the Community Awards for 2024 was Wellcome Church in Orsett, Essex. Wellcome Church has long been a cornerstone of both the local and broader community, engaging in a wide array of outreach initiatives that extend well beyond its immediate vicinity.
One of the Church's most significant contributions is to the Seafarers Centre in Tilbury. This centre, which provides critical support to seafarers far from home, relies heavily on the time and efforts of the Church's volunteers. Whether it's through fundraising efforts, offering prayers to seafarers in need, filling in when the centre is short-staffed, or even taking on tasks like cleaning the moss from the artificial grass, the centre can count on the Church any day, at any time.
The Church's efforts have a tremendous impact on the seafarers, who may not be local residents but spend significant time in Tilbury after months aboard cargo ships. The Church's assistance in making the centre a welcoming home away from home is invaluable.
It is great pleasure that we can share with you this photo of presenting a cheque for the QVSR seafarers Christmas presents fund.
Wellcome Church have been and will continue to support this work of caring for the seafarers who are far from home and will not be receiving anything from family or friends due to the distance they are away from home.
The gifts they receive from QVSR will be the only gift they have to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
