500th anniversary of the Reformation

13 October 2016

Next year we have been commissioned by Churches Together in England to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther posting his 95 theses on the doors of Wittenberg Castle church in Germany.

Reflections from CTE
“As Presidents of Churches Together in England we encourage all churches in England to mark the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 with sensitivity as we acknowledge our unity in Christ. We have learnt over the past century that unity is achieved by walking together, and we have grown in communion, friendship, reconciliation and healing. During this anniversary we want to be able to listen to the truth that is in each other, to hear our different stories, and build bridges of deeper understanding and respect”

Commemorations are focused around five words beginning with R:

  • Rejoicing
  • Remembering
  • Reforming
  • Repenting
  • Reconciling

Therefore as the Congregational Federation we have designed a programme of resources for the whole year called “Free with God” which we encourage your church to use.

The resources have been designed to suit all ages and abilities, from tweeting to telling a story, from praying to researching your local area; but at the heart of them is learning more about our faith and commemorating the fact we are “Free with God”.

Please find below the poster and plan of events as well as the notes that explains all the details, more information about some events will follow.

I hope you will find the materials inspiring and a good way of sharing the Congregational story.
