Constance Coltman Film

The film Constance was screened for the first time on Thursday at the United Reformed Church House in London.

In 1917, at the height of the First World War, Constance Coltman became the first woman to be ordained into the ministry of the Congregational Union of England and Wales and of a mainstream British denomination.

The film forms part of the preparation for the celebration of the centenary of Constance’s ordination in 2017 and the screening is an opportunity to share some of the plans to mark the centenary and to reflect on the legacy of her ministry.

Filmmaker Kevin Snyman says, "Constance Coltman was the first woman to be ordained in a mainline denomination in the United Kingdom, a remarkable achievement. Her journey was one of profound character, conviction and courage. Her story resonates with those facing discrimination, prejudice and misunderstanding in the church today."
