WWI Active Service St John's Gospel

20 September 2018

Remembrance 100
On 4th August 1918, towards the end of World War 1, King George V declared a National Day of Prayer for peace between troops all around the world. 100 days later on 11th November 1918 a peace was declared that would bring an end to the war. This year marks 100 years since that day.

To commemorate these 100 days Lifewords has partnered with the Church of England, Scripture Union, HOPE and other organisations for Remembrance 100. The project invites churches, schools, individuals, and communities to take part in daily prayers and events for peace over 100 days from Saturday 4th August 2018 leading up to Armistice Day on Sunday 11th November 2018.

During WW1, the Bible’s life words brought hope to millions of Service men and women. Lifewords distributed 43 million Active Service John’s Gospels, designed to fit into the pocket of a soldier or sailor’s tunic. Many drew solace and even found faith, turning to God in times of desperation. These same life words continue to bring comfort today.

St John's GospelLifewords is resourcing people with free copies of WW1 Active Service St John's Gospels, prayer cards, and short films and we're inviting you to help communities explore God's peace that is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago.
