My Life: Hike to Happiness

25 November 2020

Wivenhoe Congregational Church has featured in a recent CBBC Programme, My Life: Hike to Happiness. Appearing in a short sequence towards the end of the programme viewers might be able to spot one or two familiar faces.

The documentary series My Life follows the highs and lows of children across the world, each with a unique story to tell. This episode is about the increasing number of teenage girls are experiencing anxiety and in this insightful documentary we meet 15-year-old Ellie, determined to overcome her own anxiety and depression. This film follows her on a trek with the Wilderness Foundation to the Lake District with three other young people facing similar issues. Ellie learns a new resilience by mountain walking, camping and even abseiling - but will it be enough to give her the mental strength to take her GCSEs?

Michael is 14 and he too has anxiety. His condition is causing him to become increasingly withdrawn, so he hopes the trek will give him the confidence to face his fears and play the drums in front of an audience for the very first time. This ultimately uplifting film illustrates that with the right help, teenagers can learn the skills they need to control their mental health.
