Church Development Worker in Wales
31 January 2017
The Congregational Federation in Wales would like to give a warm welcome to our newly appointed Church Development Worker in Wales, Revd Sara Iles.
Sara took up her post earlier in January and has already been starting to get to know people, making visits to churches and community activities.
Sara has a background in working for community development charities and is very much looking forward to working with the churches in Wales to support their sense of confidence, mission and help to develop their networks. She has worked as a teacher in the adult education sector and as a fundraising manager for the voluntary and community sector. From our conversations with Sara, we can see that she has a heart for God, a passion for social justice and for encouraging people to grow in confidence and purpose.
After completing her degree in Applied Theology with the University of Wales (Lampeter) ten years ago, Sara has been an active member of the teaching team for the CF Integrated Course, focusing on Christian service, leadership placements, Christian spirituality and Learning Church modules. Sara served a rural church in Somerset in pastoral ministry and left last Easter after eight fulfilling years. She is now called to work in Wales in the capacity of Church Development. In addition to this part time role in Wales, Sara works for the Free Churches Group as an Education Assistant, helping to promote a faithful Christian witness in the public square.
Sara has strong family connections to Wales and is grateful to be given the opportunity to get to know the country, its people of faith, its churches and communities better in the coming year. Sara is being line managed by Sue McFarlane from Saron, Tredegar and will have the benefit and wisdom of Sue, alongside a support group to guide and encourage her.
If you would like to contact Sara, her full details are in the CF Year Book (in Accredited Ministries’ section). We all pray every blessing for her, in this role, and look forward to getting to know her and developing a strong and collaborative working relationship.
