Cinnamon Faith Audit Results

29 May 2015

Earlier this month, Cinnamon hosted some 400 delegates to hear the results of the Cinnamon Faith Action Audits, where they measured the impact of local faith groups on their communities.

In summary, from the Audit figures, we can determine that:

  • Local faith groups serve some 48 million beneficiaries in the UK;
  • Local faith groups mobilise 125,000 paid staff;
  • Local faith groups give 95.8 million paid staff hours;
  • Local faith groups mobilise 2 million volunteers;
  • Local faith groups give over 288 million volunteer hours;
  • Collectively, local faith groups give over £3 billion worth of social support.

The keynote speaker was Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who quoted Einstein when he said, “It is extraordinary what can be achieved by people who don’t care whether they get the credit for it or not”. He was also at pains to emphasise that the true work of the church was not emphatically done by Archbishops and senior leaders, but by every local church community.

“Faith communities have risen to the challenges of the past 7 or 8 years in the most extraordinary way. As they have done before and will continue to do, whatever happens in the future with the economy, because there will always be people in need.” He also thanked Cinnamon for demonstrating the most extraordinary commitment to this country and ability to mobilise effort.
