Sunday September 26th 2010.
For the second year churches in the Congregational Federation will be joining churches right across the UK and other countries throughout the world in Back to Church Sunday. Last year saw 50 churches join in and welcome over 400 people back to church through the invitations from individual members to their relatives and friends. Back to Church Sunday is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism - that we should invite someone we already know to something we love; invite our friend to our church.
'Getting involved in back to Church Sunday is a direct, gentle way of encouraging and potentially discipleing back to our churches those who are on the 'edge', those who want a nudge, those who are interested but.... This is a golden opportunity in home mission - let's us it.
Malcolm Newman, Minister for Old Coulsdon Congregational Church
Malcolm goes on to say 'We are combining Back to Church Sunday with our Harvest Festival so its going to be a double celebration. After morning service and coffee we're going to have a harvest/friends tea at 5pm & a Songs of Praise at 6pm to finish the day. Materials are great. T shirt wearers - jury still out but if I wear it it will be like a dress [only 5' 2" !].
Lot of publicity & ground work being done so praying that God will provide not only a great Harvest Festival but also extra friends we can welcome.'
