WHAT IS IT? Window on the World is a holiday conference organised by the Council for World Mission, European Region taking place 15th-21st August 2011. Window on the World gives Christians of all ages the opportunity to meet the world church, discover more about God’s mission and grow in faith. Inspiring theme talks, lively and creative worship, outdoors activities, sports and entertainment are all part of the Window on the World experience.
The conference theme of “Christians @ work” will help us explore work and discipleship – and how the two relate. How do we express the venture some love that is at the heart of discipleship in our daily lives, both in the work place and beyond? Are we really any different from those from whom we work with or live alongside? In the current economic climate how can Christians be people who live hope filled lives? Where do we gain our sense of self worth and self esteem? Window on the World 2011 will give us an opportunity to reflect on these and other questions.
We will think, worship, share in workshops and explore the conference theme together so that we are better equipped to be a positive Christian influence in our communities.
The main theme talks will be given by Ann Morisy who is a freelance community theologian who has worked in both rural and urban contexts. Ann is a well regarded speaker, with invitations from across Europe and further afield. Her presentations are down to earth but informed by scholarship and honesty as well as being engaging and light-hearted. Ann is author of a number of books, her latest “Borrowing from the Future” is a contribution to the debate about fairness between the generations and has just been published by Continuum.
Window on the World will be chaired by Francis Brienen, who is well known within CWM and CWM Europe. Francis is currently, Secretary for Mission in the United Reformed Church.
